The Year of Transformation: Grow.
As part of my year with Colectivo TAN 473 I would like to plant a garden at the Buen Pastor for the girls to tend. The garden would be primarily edible fruits, vegetables and herbs and they would have the opportunity to see the entire life cycle of the plants and then, as the plants ripen, we will come up with meals using the food harvested from the garden.
Working in the garden will not only provide the girls with responsibility but a sense of fulfillment in seeing the literal fruits of their labor. I look forward to using the garden as inspiration for different creative projects.
For example, the girls will make sketches and observations in their Cuadernos that will, at the end of the year, allow them to look back and see how the plants progressed from seed to stem, then leaves, flower and finally fruit.
The beauty of what nature provides for us and the necessity of its bounty are often overlooked as fast food and supermarkets offering pre-made, packaged meals become prevalent in our societies. I hope to engage the girls in their relationship with the Earth and inspire them to be aware of how well they maintain their planet as well as their bodies.

Como maestra y artista en Guanajuato y Colectivo TAN 473 quiero crear un jardín en el Buen Pastor al que pueden cuidar las niñas. El jardín contará con vegetales comestibles y plantas de olor. Las niñas tendrán la oportunidad de ver por completo el ciclo de vida de las plantas y, una vez listas, haremos menus y platos utilizando las verduras y frutas.
Trabajar en el jardín no sólo dará a las niñas responsabilidad sino también el sentido de cumplimiento al ver los frutos de su trabajo. Me encanta la idea de usar el jardín como inspiración para diferentes proyectos creativos.
Por ejemplo, las niñas harán bocetos y observaciones en sus Cuadernos que, al final del año, les da una vista completa de como se transformen las plantas desde semilla a tallo, luego hojas, flores y después la fruta.
La belleza de eso que nos ofrece la naturaleza y la necesidad de su generosidad son muchas veces ignoradas mientras las cadenas de comida rápida y los mercados con sus comidas envueltas de plástico llegan a ser más prevalentes. Espero inspirar una relación entre las niñas y la tierra, animarlas a estar consciente de la importancia de cuidar a su planeta tanto como a sus cuerpos.
